Looking for a sunset for your next production in Catalonia?
In Catalonia we have many locations, in cities, in the mountains, on the beaches or between vineyards from where you will be able to capture the best sunset image for your next audiovisual project. We have selected ten. Discover them!
Carmel Bunkers
One of the most spectacular views of the city you will find in the viewpoint in the heart of the Carmel neighbourhood. Not just to watch the sunset, it impresses at any time of the day. Barcelona looks smaller and it’s fun to identify streets, monuments and neighbourhoods.
You can choose to see how the sun is hiding behind the mountain Tibidabo with the shape of the Ferris wheel perfectly profiled, or sit with your feet hanging facing the sea and contemplate how the sky of the city, little by little, goes away turning reddish.
In Turó de la Rovira, one of the hills of Barcelona, we find some old bunkers of the Civil War. To this day, they have become one of the viewpoints most prized by the people of Barcelona because of its privileged location. At dusk it is full of people who want to disconnect from the frantic life of the city because the views are great.
RVD Media Group and our audiovisual production professionals have already used this location for some of our projects that you can see here and in our portfolio.
Viewpoints on the Montjuïc
If you climb the mountain of Montjuïc, you will find a couple of options with ideal locations to immortalize the sunset above the city, with the sea or the mountain in the background.
The viewpoint of the Migdia is one of them, in an area of pine trees, with picnic tables. From there you can see how the sun hides behind the mountains, with the Baix Llobregat as a witness.
Right next to it is the Caseta del Migdia, from where you will have a different view, but not less beautiful. You will see the most ‘metallic’ part of the port of Barcelona, with its colored containers placed in rows, boats and the infinite sea. In addition, if you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere, with local people and good music for your audiovisual production, here you will find it, each sunset!
Barcelona Beaches and Hotel W
Strolling along the sea on Barcelona’s Paseo Marítimo is one of the best ways to enjoy the sunset, especially if you are lucky enough it coincides with those thick white cumulonimbus clouds that cover parts of Barcelona’s sky.
The red tones that colour the beach and the sea are indescribable. As for the beaches, the best to see a beautiful sunset are the Barceloneta Beach, Somorrostro Beach, Sant Miquel Beach and Sant Sebastià Beach. And do not miss the shine and shifting hues of the scales of the Golden Fish, one of the most striking monuments of the promenade.
Another option and in general with less influx of tourists is the Eclipse club, which the W hotel has on its 26th floor. You can see the sunset from high up near the sea, with a drink in hand.
Finally, a less usual option is to rent a boat and do the opposite of what we always do: watch how the sun disappears behind the mountains from the boat, in the middle of the sea.
Sunset in the Ebro delta
Any beach is suitable for watching a sunset, but the solitary ones of the Ebro delta, far from civilization, are almost unique in Catalonia. The long beach of Trabucador, for example, a paradise for lovers of « Kite-surf », allows you to enjoy the open sea and the closed bay of the Alfacs and to see how the sun sets in the distance behind the mountains of the national park dels Ports.
Once the sun is set, the beach is dark but it allows you to see the lights of the coastal town of Sant Carles de la Ràpita. The beach la Punta del Fangar or the beach of L’Ampolla are other good options to see the sunset from the Delta. Also the sunsets near Deltebre, a municipality of the region of the Baix Ebre, close to the mouth of the river that bears its name, are a good reason to visit this natural place.
Sunset in the mountains
In Catalonia we have magical mountains like the Montserrat or the Pedraforca and several mountain ranges that look like precious postcards by sunset.
Among the districs of l’Anoia, Baix Llobregat and Bages, Montserrat is one of the most beloved mountains in Catalonia. Watching the sunset from any of its peaks is one of those things you have to do at least once in your life.
From the Pedraforca, you can see how the sun disappears between its two peaks. If it is a day with the typical low clouds, combined with the reddish color of the sunset, the postcard is secured. An idyllic location for your next photographic shooting
In the Costa Brava
Hundreds of beaches along the charming Catalan coastline are meeting points even when the day falls. The beach bars in some of them and the solitude in others make them sought after places.
Cadaqués
This small fishing village, located in the Alt Emporda región, is famous for being the holiday resort of Dalí. Its hidden coves and multiple references to the surrealist painter make Cadaqués one of the most touristy destinations on the Costa Brava. Its sunsets in the port are a true spectacle of colors.
Tossa de Mar
With its 13th century charm, Tossa de Mar houses some of the most curious beaches of the Peninsula: Es Codolar. You find it right at the foot of one of the towers of the ancient rampart of the city and it is a perfect spot to watch the sun go down.
Siurana and the Priorat
Many climbers consider it one of the best walls in Catalonia. Whether or not this is the case, the Priorat mountains are a real spectacle for the eyes. If it coincides with the sunset it is a wonder, and even more if you see it from Siurana, one of the most charming villages in the province. From this small medieval village, located at almost 740 m of altitude, in which nowadays only about fifty people live, the views on the Priorat are spectacular.
In a vineyard
Catalonia produces much wine and has several designations of origin that must be discovered, for the quality of its reds but also for its landscapes, absolutely wonderful at sunset. Alella, Costers del Segre, Priorat, Terra Alta, Pla del Bages, Conca de Barberà or the most famous Empordà or Penedès are good options to spend a good afternoon and watch the sun disappear.
Aigüestortes and Sant Maurici National Park
The only national park located in Catalonia, the Parc National d’Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici is a wonderful corner. Located in the central part of the Pyrenees, is it a high mountain landscape. Much of the territory of almost 41 hectares is more than thousand meters of height, with peaks that surpass the 3,000 meters. Abandoned valleys with verdant meadows, lakes of glacial origin, rock massifs and protected forests where the flora and fauna live in a rather wild state. Imagine also seeing the sun hide in places of these characteristics!
