It is called ‘The world is born in each kiss’ and is the photomosaic created by photographer Joan Fontcuberta on behalf of the Tricentennial. It is composed of 4,000 photographs given by citizens expressing moments of freedom.

The spectacular sculpture of ‘the Matches’ is the work of Claes Oldenburg, famous as a pioneer of Pop Art. The sculpture of the matches was commissioned by the city government and was inaugurated in 1992 on the occasion of the Olympic Games in Barcelona.

The sculpture of metal and cement has very striking colors and is spread over a large area, where large matches in different shapes are represented: some are fallen, folded, lit or consumed. Of disproportionate size, these « matches » appear disorderly from a box and reach 22 meters in height.
