Villages with Christmas events in Catalonia
Surely, before you start spending your days sitting around a table, eating and drinking, you will want to leave the house. Disconnect everything, fill your lungs with fresh air and stretch your legs a bit …
Some villages prepare Christmas with Cribs, Fairs and Markets that you can not miss. Anticipate the excesses of Christmas in one of the charming towns in Catalonia and enjoy a very special end of the year. If you are looking for a location set at Christmas, these will be perfect corners for your audiovisual production or Christmas shooting.
Bagà and its fire party
The tranquility that breath in the medieval core of Bagà is the ideal counterpoint to the typical hullabaloo of the Christmas holidays. In the Plaza Galceran de Pinós, for example, you will like its arcades, while in the old palace you will be surprised by the murals inside. But if you are looking for the most authentic calm, head to the outskirts of the historic capital of Berguedà. On the night of December 24, the medieval village of just over 2,000 inhabitants celebrates the birth of Christ with the burning of vegetable torches. They are all in the square and as the church bell tolls, the lights are turned off and the torches are lit that, from that moment, do not stop moving. When they can no longer hold the torches with their hands, they are thrown to the ground and small bonfires are formed, around which the little ones jump singing traditional songs. Will you be able to capture this great staging in your next audiovisual project? A few kilometers from Bagà is Gósol, another perfect town to be delighted by the stillness of nature with landscapes of singular beauty. Its proximity to the Pedraforca allows you to discover the most impressive corners of this emblematic massif.
Mura and its tios
Travel to the past is one of the great pleasures that involves a walk through the medieval core of Mura. And, in this village of Bages, time seems to have stopped a thousand years ago! The church of Sant Martí, the castle, the aviary of peacocks, the flour mills, the hermitage of Sant Antoni, the farmhouse of Puig de la Balma … will return you to a world of Romanesque taste. At Christmas it is also a good time to visit Mura. The town is filled with Tiós (dolls) of all types, big, small, dressed in many different ways. In this time there are more people visiting the town but it is always a visit that children will love and you can take advantage of it to capture this Christmas moment in your photographic shooting or audiovisual.
Corbera de Llobregat and its Living Nativity
It is not an exclusive custom of Catalonia, although the living cribs are very ingrained here. Some locations, preferably towns with a historical aroma, perform a spectacular display of actors and media. Sophisticated historical recreations with effects of light, sound and dialogues between the different characters. A good location for your most Christmas audiovisual project. Corbera presents one of the oldest and most important living cribs in Catalonia. More than 200 actors depict the characters of the biblical scenes within the framework of the natural landscape of the Peña del Corb. Attendees can follow a path while enjoying the recreation of the scenes.
Vila-Seca and its sand crib
Who says you can not spend Christmas on the beach? In the Tarragona municipality of Vila-seca there is a very special crib. Several sculptors from all over the world make sculptural works with sand on La Pineda beach. You will be able to capture these pieces in your audiovisual production. A very original crib for its monumentality that treats the religious theme in a different way, without forgetting the typical figures of it. On the seafront, to animate the space, a craft market is held where several artisans offer traditional products typical of these dates.
Vic and its Medieval Market
The medieval market of Vic is, together with that of Montblanc, the most spectacular in Catalonia. During these days the city is decorated to make a trip back in time and be able to move to the middle ages. Craft stalls, food, taverns, soaps, perfumes and plants fill the squares and streets of Vic. If you want to go back to the past in your next audiovisual production or photographic shooting, this is your place. The perfect excuse to stroll through this city full of history is the Plaza de Mercadal, the Roman temple, the cathedral with the paintings of Josep Maria Sert and the infinity of churches of the so-called city of saints.
Espinelves and its Fir Market
It is the most important fir fair in Catalonia. The origin goes back to the year 1981, since then every year the local farmers sell directly to visitors the Christmas trees grown in the Guilleries. A Christmas event to illustrate your photographic shooting or audiovisual production on these dates. Almost 80,000 visitors pass through the fair of this small town of 200 inhabitants. The Romanesque church of Sant Vicenç and the Masjoan grove – the largest concentration of monumental trees in Catalonia – are the other attractions that invite visitors to visit it.
Barcelona and the Santa Llúcia Fair
Although there are different Christmas fairs in the city, the one installed before the Cathedral is the most emblematic. In fact it is considered to be the oldest Christmas fair in Catalonia. At the moment it offers 270 stands that are organized in four sectors: cribs and figures, trees and vegetation, crafts and all kinds of zambombas (friction drums). The other major market of the city is the Christmas Fair of Sagrada Familia, with fewer stands but in an emblematic location. You can choose which is your favourite location for your photographic shooting or audiovisual project in the city.
