Visual Trends of 2018.

Visual Trends 2018.
“Video takes Control”, “Bloody universe”, “People protagonist” …. are some of the visual trends that will triumph next year, we bet.

The prestigious Getty Images page, with its team of visual anthropologists and art directors, is a must for any lover of photography, whether professional or not, and a prime source for the visual trends that will mark the year to come.

From the second half of the year, many companies related to the world of fashion begin to show their collections for the following year. The same happens with companies from other sectors in which photography and video play an important role and are always pending the visual trends that will dominate next year to continue in constant evolution.

For this reason, we want to get ahead a little and together with the teams of RVD Media Group, accompanied by some designers, photographers and creative directors, we have made our own bets and we want to share them with you.

But before entering the trends for 2018, let’s look back and review a little those that marked the previous years.

Visual trends in recent years.

We are going back to the year of 2015 and the first trend we see is that of the dynamic woman, hard-working, determined, with clear ideas, who does not care about the image she gives, but what she is. Other trends: different views (taking pictures from different perspectives and of course, selfies), wide screen format (landscape), images with text, sensory immersion, still life, diversity and images Monochrome.

As for the year of 2016, the visual trends were rising technology (virtual reality, aerial images and new perspectives), consistent colors (especially the Pink Quartz and Serenity Blue), images that appeal to good values and those interested in new Aesthetics, the taste for the popular, the contrast of dirty and disorderly images in front of the minimalists and cleaner aesthetics, surrealism and current affairs.

During 2017, trends from previous years, such as that of a determined woman who breaks with established stereotypes (trend in 2015) and that of advances in technology (trend in 2016)-

Hand painted red, part of these two, is also a trend this year in the field of virtuality.

The wave of color is another trend in image this 2017. Live images, which have the most unsuspected colors, flashy and serve to break the rules of visual language. The unfiltered and natural images, which tell us a story just by looking at them and thanks to their documentary aesthetics, are also trendy.

The emotional communication and the increase in diversity due to the constant movement between people serve to present the tendency of global neighbors, a tendency that bets by the elimination of cultural barriers and by the integration of the people.

Finally, consumers, especially within the generation millennial, dump platforms such as Snapchat or Instagram Stories, are the main protagonists of this 2017. Their tastes determine much the visual culture to follow and the trend of New innocence.

… ..and in 2018, what?

After a few brainstorms, we present the visual trends that according to us will mark the year 2018.

Mixed Media.

The project composed by the combination of two or more artistic techniques will have, in 2018, its most splendid moment. A combination of visual techniques in the form of visual collage where the imperfect is beautiful, with a personal touch and very imaginative.

Video takes control.

Undoubtedly, video is the medium most used by brands in their advertising campaigns. Its content invades social networks and becomes viral very easily. It is an entertaining and easy to use form of content and helps 90% of the user’s purchase decision. According to predictions, in 2018 about 84% of Internet traffic will be generated by online video. For this reason we believe that the visual trends in this field will have a total protagonism. Being able to share your life instantly, using platforms such as Snapchat or Instagram Stories, panoramic videos, aerial 4k with drones, 360 degree technology, augmented reality and 3D will continue to boom for the coming year.

“IN 2018 THE ONLINE VIDEO WILL SUPPORT 84% OF ALL TRAFFIC ON THE INTERNET – THE PRIME TIME OF THE ONLINE VIDEO AND COINCIDE WITH THE TELEVISION” .- 40 fever.

People protagonist.

People who teach their work to the world, whether through photography or video, the man and woman who have control over their life and achieve happiness through these small moments in which they feel themselves the true protagonists.

Bloody universe.

As for colors, we believe that the colors that will mark visual trends of 2018 will be red, black-white combinations and metallic colors.

Chaotic rebellion.

Current trends. The horror of the Syrian war, the jihadist attacks, the brexit, the Trump mandate, the North Korean regime with Kim Jong-Un … we think that 2018 will provoke a chaotic image of protest, where the voice of the people have much to say.

Robotic hyperconnectivity.

Advances in nanotechnology, 3D printers, robotics, the continuous progression in fields such as virtual reality, make us totally hyperconnected in our day to day life. We are leaping ahead of a world dominated by machines and we believe that will be another important visual trend during 2018.

Back to Basics.

The return to cooking, to recycle, to eat well, to take care of yourself … the most important thing is the well-being and for that reason we return to past times where life was more healthy. An image that looks back trying to capture healthy moments in the society, versus the current, increasingly fed by the canons that mark the industry.

Virtuality Vs Reality.

The advances in virtual reality provoke totally immersive experiences in the viewer, plunging into virtual spaces full of light and images. This symbiosis between the virtual and the real world is changing the way we see things and we think this will be one of the key visual trends that will mark 2018.

Finally, we want to thank the people who have left their proposals for visual trends in our facebook!

And you, do you dare to leave yours?
